Aba bye-election: Ikonne spits fire, declares how winner’ll emerge
*Says APC has no candidate

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the prince of Aba foremost monarch, Prince Paul Ikonne, has declared that godfatherism and undue influence would have no role in deciding the winner of Saturday’s bye-election for Aba North and Aba South federal constituency.
The Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Land Development Authority, NALDA, who made the declaration in an interview with a popular radio station in Aba said that his party had no candidate for the forthcoming poll.
Ikonne who also declared that the days of ‘mamacray’ was over, said Saturday battle would give birth to ‘Abacracy’.
He vowed that any attempt by any one family to control Aba again would be stoutly resisted by Aba people.
His words: “Aba is a municipal city. It doesn’t belong to one family.
“Telling me that Orji Uzor Kalu’s younger brother is APC candidate is an insult because Orji Uzor Kalu’s immediate younger brother, Nnanna Kalu was in the same house for eight years.
“What did he achieve? Why the same family again? Aba is not that backward. Aba does not belong to an individual.
” I’m from Aba. Aba people know what they want and how to get what they want.
” My party has no candidate because there are litigations. There is no candidate yet until the court decides.”
When reminded that some chieftains of the party had been visiting Aba to solidarise with Kalu during his campaign tours he retorted: ” Aba is a big city, Ariaria International market is in Aba; they may be going to Ahiaohuru to buy goat”.
Ikonne further said: “Aba no longer wants mamacracy or brothercracy. What we want is Abacracy.
” Abia former Governor who is now a sitting senator was Governor for eight solid years and his brother was at the House of Representatives for eight years too.
” There are other people in Aba. We have people from Anambra, Imo, Enugu and others places, sound business men, traders and professionals who are more qualified.
” If not for the death of Ossy Prestige we won’t be in this mess. Aba people chose Ossy Prestige and voted for him. That is why he made so much impact within his short stay in office.”
The son of Aba pioneer monarch, HRM Eze Isaac Ikonne revealed how the Saturday’s contest would be decided.
” What will happen on Saturday is that Aba people will choose their representative and not one man trying to controll Aba from his village.
” I’m not talking of indigenship. I’m talking of justice. The days of Okija shrine is over. Enough is enough! ”
Ikonne who accused Kalu of trying to destroy APC, argued that the Senate Chief Whip is a late commer to APC, and would not be allowed to steal the soul of the party.
” Orji wasn’t a founding member of APC. He was in PPA before he joined APC. Before joining us things were moving on well in APC .
“If he wasn’t able to manage PPA how do you think he can manage APC? That thing he used to kill PPA is what he is trying to bring into APC but we shall resist him.
” He doesn’t know why we have broom as our symbol. He brought the spirit of PPA to kill APC but we are going to resist him.”
