Enugu massacre : Kanu raises alarm over arrest of survivor at UNTH
* Warns of dire consequences
By Steve Oko
Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has raised alarm over the police arrest of Ofornedu Okafor, one of the survivors of the August 23 massacre of IPOB members by the security operatives in Enugu.
According to Kanu, the victim who was receiving treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu, was arrested Friday morning by the police who also whisked away his grandfather looking after him at the hospital.
The IPOB leader warned of dire concequences should anything untoward happen to the convalescent and his grandfather.
Kanu called on the British High Commission to prevail on the federal government to ensure the safety of the victim, and to halt the provocative man haunt for unarmed Biafra agitators by the security agencies.
A press statement personally signed by Kanu read in part : “We know foreign supporters of Fulani like the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Abuja will do nothing about this but I do hope they will note it because should anything happen to this young man Ofornedu Okoafor, the consequences will be too disastrous to contemplate.
“Let us not forget that it was the same mindless Nigerian Police brutality and savagery that gave birth to the Boko Haram we see today.”
It further read : “This situation report from Enugu is meant for the attention of the British High Commissioner in Abuja. It is to make them aware of what their favorite lapdogs in uniform are doing to innocent Biafrans that survived their terror attacks two Sundays ago in Enugu.
“The same Enugu Police Commissioner this morning went to the hospital (UNTH) in Enugu where the injured are receiving treatment for the bullet wounds he inflicted upon them to abduct the young man in this photo. This callous Fulani in uniform also abducted the boy’s grandfather who was with him at the time they arrived.
We understand this young victim of Fulani Police and his grandfather were taken away as part of Enugu Police Command’s evidence tampering and cleansing. They now want to finish the job to bring the number of murdered unarmed Biafrans to 23.”
