Coronavirus : Abia govt directs immediate payment of workers, pensioners

As part of stimulus packages to cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic,

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed the state Ministry of Finance to immediately commence payment of civil servants and verified pensioners in the state.

According to a statement by the Commissioner of Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, payment of the workers and retirees will commence from today (March 27), and conclude latest Monday, May 30.

“This compassionate directive is aimed at ensuring that workers and verified pensioners have money to stock up food in the event of a lockdown in the state”, the statement said.

According to the statement, the Governor has also directed the conclusion of pension verifications on Friday, 27th March, 2020.

It also said that “Governor Ikpeazu also mandated the Inter-ministerial Committee on Coronavirus to commence issuance of daily updates to citizens till further notice”.
