2023 Abia south senatotrial race: Don’t contest against Abaribe, Orji tells Ikpeazu
By Steve Oko
As campaigns for the 2023 polls gather momentum, one of the major governorship aspirants of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Sampson Orji popularly known as SCOURJ, has advised Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu not to bother contesting the Abia South senatotrial race with the incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Senator Abaribe had wanted to contest for the governorship seat under the platform of PDP but later withdrew, hours before the primaries citing irregularities in the conduct of the three-man ad-hoc congress, and subsequently defected to the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, where he was given a return ticket to the red chamber.

Dr Sampson Orji who gave the advice Monday in Umuahia while featuring on a popular live radio programme known as ‘Open Parliament’, said that if he were asked to choose between Governor Ikpeazu and Senator Abaribe for Abia South senatorial contest, he would “vote against Ikpeazu”.

Wawa News Global reports that both Ikpeazu who is the PDP candidate for Abia South senatotrial race, and Dr Orji are PDP chieftains while Senator Abaribe is in APGA.
Gov. Ikpeazu who will be completing his second term in office by May 2023, and Senator Abaribe all hail from Obingwa Local Government Area.
According to the former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, asking him to choose between Gov. Ikpeazu and Senator Abaribe “is like asking one to choose between experience and lack of experience”.
The former lawmaker added that Abaribe is the only voice of justice and equity in the Senate for South East, arguing that replacing him with Ikpeazu is like choosing inexperience in place of experience.
His words:”Abaribe has performed well in the senate. He is the voice of Ndigbo and against injustice in the senate. You cannot use a man who will be there to learn the ropes of legislation to replace him.
“If I have the opportunity, I will tell Ikpeazu to step down for Abaribe. It is not a must that every Governor will retire at the senate.
“I am a Christian and at my age if I see what is right and refuse to say it, I wonder if I will say it in the grave,”Orji thundered.
Dr Orji who is currently challenging the outcome of the PDP governorship primary at the Federal High Court Umuahia, claimed that the exercise was manipulated in favour of the party’s flag bearer.
He alleged that the list of three-man delegate congress was selected as the exercise was never conducted but the list generated for a pre-determined end.
