Abia North body of advisers adopts Ohuabunwa for senate
By Steve Oko
The return bid of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to return to the Senate in 2023, Saturday, received a major boost as Special Advisers to the Governor from Abia North district, formally adopted him as their sole candidate.
Conveying their resolution to the former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament when they visited him in his Umuahia residence, the Advisers, vowed to deploy every arsenal at their disposal to ensure his return to the red chamber in 2023.

The Advisers said they were not bothered about his emergence at the PDP primaries because “he has no competitor”, noting that their focus is on the main election which according to them, will also be a walk-over because the people of the zone have learnt from their mistake and the agony of killing ones champion.
Speaking during a solidarity visit to Senator Ohuabunwa, the Cordinator, Abia North body of Advisers, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Utilities, Mr Ifeanyi Okorie, an Engineer, said their decision to endorse him was based on their conviction that his absence at the senate since 2019 had made the zone better appreciate his relevance.

He said they were resolute to make every necessary sacrifice and commitment to ensure that he not only picks the PDP ticket but successfully returns to the senate in 2023.
” We will use our time, resources and support base as leaders in our various wards and communities to ensure your return to the Senate where you rightly belong”, Okorie vowed.
Adding his voice, former Commissioner for Boundary Matters, Hon. Mascot Obike, said the PDP ticket “is Ohuabunwa’s to pick”, adding that their major focus is the main election in which he said, the people of Abia North would correct the 2019 mistake.
In her remarks, Lady Joy Dimanochie, said Senator Ohuabunwa’s absence at the senate in the past three years had sent Abia North backwards in the political equation of not only the state but the country.
She said that Abia had realised their mistake and now prepared to right the wrong.
Lady Dimanochie promised to, along with other women leaders in Abia North, mobilise the women who command the greatest voting population for Senator Ohuabunwa in the forthcoming senatorial poll.
Responding, Senator Ohuabunwa thanked the Advisers for their show of genuine support for, saying he has been tremendously encouraged by the solidarity.
He said he had put behind him the sad experiences of 2019, and thanked the people for realising that one should not allow his champion to go down.
The former Senate Committee Chairman on Primary Health Care and Communicable Diseases, recalled how at least every political Ward and almost every community in Abia North got a Primary Health Centre while he was in the senate.
He explained that he was already working towards equipping all the health centres during his second tenure but regretted that some dark forces sabotaged his return bid.
The former Leader House of Representatives, regretted that Abia North which was once represented by highly respected senators like Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, late Uche Chukwumerije and himself, had suddenly become a laughing stock and comic relief at the ninth senate.
Senator Ohuabunwa who noted that the National Assembly Service Bill was his brain child while he was at the House of Representatives said his legislative prowess was incontrovertible.
Ohuabunwa who also sponsorsed the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC bill, said that even his fellow senators recognised his worth in legislative matters, hence, they crowned him ” DG of Amendments”.
The former Leader ECOWAS Parliament, who said that the “Senate is not for camaraderies” (the novice or political neophytes), expressed surprise that some people who could not prove their mettle at a lower chamber are angling to represent the zone at the upper legislative chamber.
” How can people who never moved a motion or sponsor a bill at the lower chamber want to go to the senate where they will be swallowed. It’s only in Abia North!”
He commended the Advisers for their bold step, and promised not to betray the confidence reposed on him.
