Stage now set for Sen Wabara’s civic reception – Abia ex-deputy gov

Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr Ude Okochukwu, has said that all is now set for the civic reception being organized for the former Senate President and Chairman of Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Adolphus Wabara, scheduled for Saturday June 1st at the Michael Okpara Square Event Centre Umuahia.
Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, the former Deputy Governor who is the Chairman, Local Organising Committee, said that the event to be chaired by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, would be attended by other serving PDP Governors, former Governors as well as other chieftains of the party from across the country.
Oko Chukwu who was flanked at the briefing by the Chairman of the Publicity sub-committee and former representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkem Abonta; and former Commissioner for Documentation, Mr Ugochukwu Emezue, said the reception would be a national event.
He also said that members of the National Working Committee, NWC, ex-Governors and other bigwigs including non PDP members, had confirmed their participation in the epoch-making event
He noted that contrary to speculations in some quarters, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not dead in Abia State, declaring that very soon, few chieftains who left the party would soon return.
He said that the party would use the outing as a proof that Abia remains a stronghold of the PDP.
Sir Oko Chukwu who also disclosed that the event coincided with Wabara’s 76th birthday anniversary, said Governor Peter Mbah of  Enugu State would be the Chief Host of the ceremony.
The former Deputy Governor said that the party decided to celebrate Wabara considering his enormous contributions towards building both the PDP, and the Nigerian democracy.
He described the former Senate President as “a distinguished Nigerian, democrat, leader and a man of peace who deserves to be honoured.”
” We feel it is time to let him know that we appreciate all his contributions. We are going to roll out the drums to celebrate him.
” It is no longer an Abia thing but a national event as the NWC of our party, the People’s Democratic Institution and other stakeholders are collaborating for the success of the event”.
The former Deputy Governor who said that the ceremony would also be a revival rally for the PDP in Abia, said people from all parts of the country would grace the occasion.
Contributing, Rep Abonta described Wabara as an apostle of justice and equity who has remained vocal about good governance.
” He stands by what he says and has been resilient”, he said, adding that he has always lived up to expectations as the conscience of the party.
Rep. Abonta said that Senator Wabara had always been a huge asset to Abia State and Nigeria, declaring that he has remained a role model.
