ANAN Holds MCPD 2nd Session In Yenagoa

The President and Chairman of Council of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Reverend Canon Professor Benjamin Chuka Osisioma has enjoined Accountants to exhibit their accounting skills to ensure accountability in governance.
He made the remarks while presenting his address at the second session of the 2022 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme held at the Bayelsa State Ecumenical Centre in Yenagoa.
Reverend Canon Osisioma noted that the major challenge of accounting practice is reporting, stressing that if the report is deficient it will lead to inefficient governance performance.
He said ANAN seminar topics are always well chosen to address contemporary issues which he stated will make members to become worthy Accountants.
The Chairman of Council thanked the Bayelsa State Government for supporting the State Chapter to host the seminar.
In his speech, the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Douye Diri, represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo described the theme ” Dynamics of Corporate Reporting And Governance as a contemporary topic and hinted that reporting is the glory of ANAN.
The Bayelsa Governor stated that without positive and accurate reporting of available resources, governance will suffer.
He advised ANAN members to avoid stereotypes and be open to new knowledge, and ideas that are imperative for the advancement of the profession.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman ANAN Bayelsa State Branch, Prince Tenbebelakumo Amgbare said ANAN value training, retraining and professional development of members while noting that the topic “Dynamics of Corporate Reporting And Governance is in line with ANAN mission which touches the heart of corporate stability and progress.
He said participants will acquire knowledge and skills required to improve corporate governance for the development of the society from the seminar.
Prince Tenbebelakumo Amgbare thanked the President and the Governing Council for considering Bayelsa State worthy to host the seminar. He on behalf of the members appreciated Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo for supporting the branch to host a successful seminar.
Others appreciated include Dr. Ebimobowei Wodu, past Chairman, Pastor Dr.Tonye Richard Apiri, Accountant General Bayelsa State, Madam Tokoni Ifidi for being a strong pillar of support to the Association, Chief James Neminebor, first Vice President for his fatherly advice, Chairman and members of the local organising committee for their cooperation that accounted for the huge success of the programme.
Presenting a goodwill message, the Registrar of ANAN University Jos, Mr. Faithful Paterson, a Bayelsan commended the leadership of ANAN for taken the lead as the first accounting body to establish a university in Nigeria.
He said the institution is for interested scholars to pursue postgraduate degrees in various fields of accounting including auditing and forensic accounting as well as environmental, oil and gas accounting. Dr. Nnagozie Nkwo presented paper on Tax Environment And Effects In Business, Dr. Barr. Lionel Effiom, Development In Sustainability Reporting Framework,. Professor Ifeoma Okwo, Corporate Governance Code And Reporting In Nigeria, Professor Muhammed Isa, Financial Reporting And Governance In Nigeria, Mr. John Oluta, International Accounting Standards Board: IFRS Development And Agenda, among others.
The seminar featured syndicate sessions and a gala night at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Have, Government House, Yenagoa.
Over One Hundred persons were inducted as new members.
