Ex-council boss dissociates self from purported Abia North position against PDP national office slot

By Steve Oko

Former Arochukwu Local Government Chairman, Princely Kingsley Ngunu, has dissociated himself from a purported communique from Abia North Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, elders and stakeholders, rejecting any national office slot in the forthcoming PDP convention.

The purported communique allegedly issued by the stakeholders after their meeting at Ohafia, insisted that the interest of Abia North was to produce the Abia governor in 2023 , and not to contest any position in the PDP National Working Committee at the party’s natioal Convention.

According to the communique, any person from Abia North aspiring for any position in the forthcoming PDP National Convention is working against the collective interest of the zone, and should be opposed.

But Ngunu in a statement yesterday, described the purported communique as a misrepresentation of what transpired at the said meeting.

He said that the conveners of the said meeting read a prepared communique to participants which they rejected and made corrections which the conveners promised to reflect in the final draft.

Ngunu who described the purported communique as malicious and one borne out of envy, expressed shock that the final draft of the communique did not reflect the inputs and corrections by stakeholders at the meeting.

He argued that the aspiration of any Abia North indigene for any position in the National Working Committee of the PDP, did not in any way negate the agitation by the zone for the Abia governoship slot.

According to Ngunu, barring any person from Abia North from contesting for any position of ones choice at the PDP Convention is akin to a dog in the manger as such aspiration has no correlation with the Abia North governoship quest.

He said his signature on the purported communique was culled from the attendance register to achieve premeditated goal.

The statement read: “I hereby state without mincing words, that I distance and disassociate myself from such wicked and malicious misrepresentation of facts .

” The resolutions as contained in the communique, are borne out of misinformation and I therefor refute it and its contents for these reasons.

” I must acknowledge the fact that a meeting was held, and an already prepared communique read before the members in attendance. Corrections were suggested and realignment of the contents solicited.

“Most unfortunately, the reconstruct/recast occasioned by the contributions of members about the contents was not reflected, as we were assured, corrections will be reflected “as it where”

“I was sceptical about the ability of the convoked body to reflect the corrections and however waited to hear the presentation of the clean copy. It is quite unfortunate that I now read it from the social media.

“The signature in the communique, which is undoubtedly mine is extracted from the attendance sheet.

“I wasn’t and cannot in any way going to sign a document purported on falsehood and to my greatest surprise based on personal vendetta even though the name of the person was not mentioned during the proceedings.

“Moreso a communique was made ready and presented before the members and realignment sought but corrections and recast of the contents not considered or reflected.

“I stand against the resolution of the forum as presented in the communique because such machinations which I believe is evil has happened to me before. I know how it feels for one to be hindered from his aspiration just by a mere hearsay.

“Moreover the purported stand of the communique as reasoned has no relationship with our quest for Governorship of Abia North extraction which I unequivocally support and completely stand for, any time any where.

“It is however my disposition that a resolution /communique of this nature would have better achieved it’s aim if the final production was read before the members whom their signatures were going to be used. It’s after listening to the contents that one can voluntarily append his signature.

“I see no reason we must trade these line of thoughts , cutting our nose just to spite our face. I believe there are no reasons why we must destroy our own just to be politically correct because we wish to fan the ego of some individuals.

“Be it as it may, the PDP National Executive position do not in any foreclose the realization of our age long quest for Governorship of Abia North extraction.”

Ngunu noted that Abia North was entitled to contest for the governoship position in 2023 based on the Abia charter of equity.

“Our quest as enshrined in “Abia Chatter of Equity” is a position and interest strongly canvassed by the founding fathers of Abia State.

“This position has nothing to do with the National office of PDP any other son of Abia North may be seeking for.

“I therefore question the rationale for the harsh stand in the purported communique as published and not as corrected.
