Breaking : Abia council boss, Ginger Onwusibe to face prosecution over non-declaration of assets

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has been ordered by a Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, to prosecute the incumbent Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government, Mr. Ginger Onwusibe, for alleged non -declaration of his assets upon assumption of office as the council boss.
Onwusibe who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly candidate for Isiala Ngwa North state constituency in the 2019 poll, was elected as Council boss in 2016.
The court order was sequel to a suit filed by Isaac Alozie against CCB, Onwusibe, PDP Chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo seeking the prosecution of the council boss for flaunting the law.
Presiding Judge, Justice E. N. Anyadike granted the exparte motion and ordered that Onwusibe be tried.
The court directed the CCB, “To invite, investigate and prosecute Onwusibe for his errant refusal and failure to declare his assets upon the assumption of office as chairman of Isiala Ngwa North council area”.
It also ordered “substituted service on the respondents by delivering the processes in this suit to any senior officer at their respective offices”.
The case was adjourned till 8th day of November 2018.
Meanwhile, CCB had written to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, seeking his intervention, and pleading that he prevail on the council boss to comply with the constitutional requirement.
The State Director of CCB, Mrs. Chisara Chukwu, also pleaded with the Governor to compel one Chukwuemeka Nwachukwu, a member of the Local Government Service Commission, to also do the needful.
The letter dated April 18th and entitled ‘Non declaration of assets on assumption of office’, was made available to Wawa News Global in Umuahia Monday.
It read in part : “I wish to inform you that the following persons whom you have confidence to work with assumed office without declaring their assets which is a breach of the code.
“I have used all the strategies but it has proved obstinate, then I decided to report to you as the father and head of this state.
” Sir could you do me a favor by doing whatever you can do so that they can fulfill their 1999 obligations towards constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria”.
