Michael Okpara varsity, NiMet sign MoU on equipment of weather station, staff training- VC

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike MOUAU, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, to equip the university’s Meteorological laboratory with state-of-the-art weather equipment.

Vice Chancellor Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe who disclosed this at a press conference said that NiMet which built and equipped a weather station at the university would also be involved in staff training and donation of resource materials.
Professor Iwe who noted that weather station is very important for agriculture, engineering, Meteorological studies, and other related courses identified the deal as one of the major achievements of his administration in the past 100 days.
He also disclosed that the university had settled the rift with the supplier of “tens of cabs” for campus shuttle which had been grounded at the campus for years.
The VC said that the contractor after negotiations, had agreed to hand over the ownership of 45 vehicles to the university, adding that the cabs are now undergoing repairs after which they would be deployed for campus shuttle.
Professor Iwe who said one of the mission statements of his administration was to produce self sufficient farmers, said he had already launched Agric Graduate Loan Scheme aimed at giving loans to graduating students willing to embark on commercial farming.
He said that the first set of seven beneficiaries of the scheme who graduated from different colleges in the university received between N120,000 and N400,000 to commence operation.
