Stakeholders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, have withdrawn their support for the member representing Arochukwu /Ohafia federal constituency, Hon. Uko Nkole.
The stakeholders who took the decision after a strategic meeting in Umuahia, expressed disappointment over the Abam-born lawmaker who they accused of causing division in Arochukwu LGA.
Addressing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting which was attended by ‘who is who in PDP from all five clans in Arochukwu LGA, former Chief Whip of Arochukwu Legislative Council, Hon. Cletus Nwankwo , accused Nkole of “biting the finger that fed him”.
The two -term legislator was also accused of being a mole for the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC in the PDP fold.
The stakeholders further alleged that Nkole openly worked against the candidate of PDP in the 2019 Abia North senatorial poll.
They said it amounted to ” treachery and grievous sabotage” for a party member to work against the interest of his party.
The stakeholders according to their mouthpiece, threatened to commence a process of recalling the lawmaker “if he fails to sit up “, adding that they are tired of “deaf and dumb representation”.
He said that instead of helping to build a virile PDP family in Arochukwu, Nkole was busy hobnobing with APC “in a desperation to actualise his wishful governorship quest”.
” When NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency) donated relief materials to Isu community, Nkole during the presentation of the items never consulted with any PDP member in the council.
” He didn’t even have the courtesy of informing any government appointee from the council but on his entourage were prominent APC leaders. There was no representation of the PDP in Abia. That left us with doubts over his claims of being a PDP member.”
The stakeholders further accused the lawmaker of not doing enough to improve on the living standards of the people saying he has not attracted any meaningful project to the constituency since his five year sojourn at the green chamber.
” Instead of attracting projects like his predecessors he is busy causing divisions in Arochukwu including his own Abam community engulfed in chieftaincy tussle.”
They further accused Nkole of spending much time in his Abam country home “plotting how to become governor in 2023” instead of fighting for the right of his constituents at the national assembly.
” Let him tell us any single motion or bill he has sponsored since he went to Abuja five years ago. He is always absent from sittings at the House while his colleagues are making meaningful contributions. We are ashamed of him because he’s the dullest of all lawmakers that have represented our constituency.
“We are tired of deaf and dumb representation. Even first timers like his Bende counterpart, Hon. Benjamin Kalu is the chairman of a House committee and doing well. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha representing Isuikwuato /Umunneochi is a principal officer, and fighting like a lion, but ask Nkole why though a second term member, he can’t head a committee.”
The stakeholders made jest of the lawmaker’s rumoured governorship ambition in 2023, saying the project “is dead on arrival “.
” We know he cannot be governor; he is only a joker. Nobody can even trust him for Deputy governorship position how much more a Governor.
“We know his plans. He only wants to truncate the unwritten rotation arrangement between Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs but we want to assure him that the house of representatives seat will move to Ohafia come 2023.
“The seat right from 1999 has been rotated between Arochukwu and Ohafia. He is only pretending to be a PDP member but in actuality he is in APC. His real plan is to defect to APC in 2023 when PDP denies him ticket.
“He thinks he can manipulate the system and return to the House of Reps for a third term like somebody did in Isuikwuato /Umunneochi constituency but he lacks the capacity. Let him just complete his second tenure and vacate the seat.
” Let him show why we won’t see him as a traitor when all his friends are from APC. He has messed up his political career. He is a little boy that has eaten fat and wants to challenge every other man in Arochukwu but he will fail woefully! Uko is only trying to launch a war against forces beyond him “.
The stakeholders dismissed claims that the lawmaker has the backing of some party bigwigs, saying he is a lone ranger.
“I can proudly tell you that Nkole is alone. Only his e-rats he is feeding with crumbs and using to insult elders on the social media that are with him for their stomachs . All known political stakeholders including serving and former political appointees from Arochukwu were represented in the meeting. With these people in attendance who else do you think is with him?
When contacted, Nkole dismissed the stakeholders’ meeting as a gathering of cloud without rain.
“I’m the highest political office holder in Arochukwu and I wasn’t in the meeting : how then do you call it stakeholders? Did you see the chairman of the party there? Was it at the party office? If people gathered in one man’s house and held a meeting how do you call it stakeholders?
The lawmaker who was angry with our correspondent who he accused of “writing negative things” against him threatened him against publishing the report.
Instead of responding to the allegations levelled against him by the stakeholders, the lawmaker directed his venom on our correspondent threatening to deal with him.
“If you write anything against me again then you will go in for it “, the lawmaker threatened.
On the controversy over the PDP chairmanship tussle in the LGA after the last party congress, the stakeholders stated their willingness to abide by the directives of the Governor as the leader of the party in the state.
They pledged their “unalloyed loyalty” and support to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu but advised the governor to “beware of wolves in sheep clothing “.
The stakeholders who thanked God for the quick recovery of the governor from covid -19 pandemic said “PDP stakeholders in Arochukwu are not factionalised but firmly united behind him.”
Some of the stakeholders present at the meeting were former Secretary to State Government, Mazi Donatus Okorie; former Commissioner for Commerce and lawmaker, Dr. Sampson Orji (represented by Mike Onwuchekwa); and former Arochukwu LGA Chairmen , Kingsley Ngunu, and James Kalu.
Others were former Speaker Arochukwu Legislative Council, Nwabueze Okoro (Proper); former Council PDP Chairmen, Tony Nwankwo, and Obinna Nwankwo.
Present also were a PDP strong man in Abam, Engr. Isaac Nkole ; Special Adviser to Governor Ikpeazu, Chief Felix Ukpabi; former lawmaker, Chief Tom Ezikpe; Frank Nwafor; and PDP women Leader in the council, Ugoeze Ochioha Okereke.
Others were Mrs. Nene Nwokoro, Patrick Azuma, Tony Okoro, Patrik Otta, among a host of others.
