‘Second term based on performance not equity theory , ‘ Abia ex- Speaker, Azubuike tells Ikpeazu
By Steve Oko,
Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike, has told Governor Okezie Ikpeazu that ” second term is based on performance and not equity theory or zoning arrangement “.

Azubuike who is the running mate to the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Dr. Uche Ogah, made the assertion at the Uturu country home of Ogah while addressing the press after a meeting with all APC aspirants and candidates that emerged from the just -concluded primaries.
He said Ikpeazu had wasted the opportunity given to him by Abians to prove his mettle, advising him to perish his second term ambition and get ready to leave the seat of power come 2019 or be humiliated at the poll.

His words : ” Ikpeazu has been given the opportunity to perform but he performed very poorly. So, giving him another opportunity is wasting the quality time that the state needs to develop “.
The former Speaker who is also of Ngwa extraction just like Ikpeazu said zoning would not count in determining the state’s Chief Executive come 2019 because the need to rescue Abia from the ruins of bad leadership was paramount.
” We have gotten to a point where it should be Abia first. The negative implication of bad governance goes beyond zones. The Ngwa man is complaining just as other parts of the state are complaining about poor leadership.
” When we engender good governance there will be growth and development that will benefit every part of the state. We need to rewrite the history of Abia State in good light.
“Let us rescue and recover our state first before we begin to talk about zoning”, Azubuike thundered.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which produced Ikpeazu in 2015 zoned power to Abia South, a decision it said was based on Abia charter of equity which recommended rotation of power among the political blocs in the state.
PDP has also adopted zoning for the 2019 poll while APC said it would not subscribe to the arrangement , arguing that it creates room for mediocrity and incompetence.
