Abia govt to compensate airport land donors before May – Commissioner

Abia State Government has promised to compensate land donors for its proposed International airport before the month of May, 2020.
The affected communities span through there Local Government Areas of Umuahia South, Ikwuano, and Isialangwa North.
Commissioner for Lands, Survey & Urban Planning, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu, who disclosed this in a press statement yesterday in Umuahia said government had concluded plans to pay compensation for the lands before the ground -breaking ceremony would be performed by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to the release, this was the outcome of a tripartite meeting of the state government, the Investor and key stakeholders in the affected communities including traditional rulers, women leaders, youth leaders.
The release said Ikpeazu’s government was determined to delivering the airport project before leaving office.
It enumerated some of the key economic advantages of the airport to include job creation, revenue generation, tourism, commerce among others.
The release also quoted the Investor, Chief Philip Orjiakor, of assuring the timely delivery of the project with the collaborative efforts of his conglomerates and international partners.
