IGP disburses cheques to families of deceased police personnel in S’East

Families of police personnel who died in active duty in the South East geopolitical zone have received succor from the police authorities to help cushion the adverse effect of the demise of their bread winners.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP,  Adamu Mohammed Abubakar, who distributed cheques worth over N15 million to the affected families, Wednesday at the Officers Mess Umuahia, expressed his regrets over their ordeals.
He condoled with them and urged them never to despair, assuring them that the Nigerian Police would not abandon them.
The IGP represented by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 9, Baba Tijjani, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the intervention  fund.
He said the largess was for their up-keeps, training of their children as well as completion of any abandoned project initiated by the deceased personnel.
A total of 12 families of deceased cops drawn from  Abia, Anambra and Enugu States benefited from the largess.
Responding on behalf of others, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Chinyere Onuora, the widow of late Inspector Everistus Onuora, expressed her profound gratitude to the IGP for the gesture.
The mother of four who said the largess would go a long way in alleviating the hardship of the affected families following the demise of their bread winners, promised that the fund would be judiciously utilised.
Later in an interview, Master Chinonso Onyia, 24-year old son of late Cyril Onyia said the fund was a huge relief to the affected families considering the various pressures the untimely death of their bread winners had subjected them to.
The under graduate of Institute of Management Technology, IMT Enugu said his father was killed by a devil -may -care robbery gang in operation  at Upper Iweka ,Onitsha on 4th June, 2017.
