‘Orji Kalu not bigger than Abia North, declare seat vacant now ‘, group tells senate president
By Steve Oko
As tension continues to build across Abia North over the political quagmire in the zone following the incaseration of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a group of concerned constituents has called for the declaration of his seat vacant.
The group known as Abia North Voice Organization (ANVO) urged the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan to ” stop postponing the doomsday but immediately declare Kalu’s seat vacant “.
The group in a press statement after its emergency meeting in Abuja, expressed fury that “Abia North has completely gone voiceless” at the senate, a development it said, was “a collective insult” on the entire district.
It argued that Abia North had been totally excluded from any benefits form the federal government as non of the projects already captured in the 2019 budget for the zone was executed.
Leader of the group, Chief Kalu Elekwachi (from Igbere, Kalu’s home town) , who signed the group threatened mass action if by the end of March the senate President failed to declare Kalu’s seat vacant.
The group which said it was non partisan explained that its interest was to ensure Abia North was not shortchanged at the senate.
It said its concern was to ensure a fresh poll was conducted in the zone to replace Kalu who is currently serving a 12-year jail term following his conviction on a fraud case.
