Abia govt sponsors bill for free medical treatment for elderly

Gov Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has forwarded a bill to the state House of Assembly for the free medical treatment of all elderly persons in the state.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere who disclosed this Wednesday at a reception in his honour by the President of Vision Africa Radio, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, said the bill was intended to address the difficulties elderly persons have in accessing health care services.

Agbazuere who expressed optimism that the bill would be given accelerated hearing by the lawmakers said when passed into law, elderly people would receive medical care in their respective homes.

The former Commissioner for Information and Strategy said his appointment came to him as “a pleasant surprise ” as he “never lobbied for it.”

He said he was humbled by the reception in his honour and promised not to disappoint the people.

” God used the governor to remember me the son of a poor man, and I will not fail the people “, he said.

The constitutional lawyer who said his doors were always open promised to ensure people seeking audience with the governor receive the needed attention.

” I have not and will not change my phone number, and I will always remain accessible “, he vowed.

He appreciated the Vision Africa President for honouring him and promised to always stand by the station.

Speaking earlier, Bishop Onuoha described Agbazuere who he said he had maintained a long relationship with as uncommon asset to the state.

He charged him to remain dedicated and discharge his duties with the fear of God.
