By Steve Oko
A mammoth crowd of Jubilant supporters of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Wednesday, held victory rally in Umuahia  the Abia State capital to celebrate the judgement of the Election Petitions Tribunal which on Monday  invalidated the election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC).
The Justice Cornelius Akintayo led panel had ordered supplementary poll in eight electoral wards in Arochukwu plus so many other wards and units in the zone where results of the February 23rd election  were not collated.
Ohuabunwa who had been away since the judgement was delivered was billed to arrive the state Wednesday, hence his supporters poured in from all councils in the zone to accord him a rousing welcome.
The supporters who sang solidarity songs also carried placards with various inscriptions such as :” God we thank you for  the victory of Follow Better “; “Nobody can change God’s will “; “Abia North is for PDP, we don’t want Ruga senator “, among others.
The mammoth crowd danced through some major roads while awaiting the arrival of the former Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament, who incidentally could not make it following flight challenge according to a source close to him.
Speaking with Wawa News Global, the Director General of his campaign organisation, Dr. Ndubisi Eke, said the rally was to demonstrate the people’s gratitude to God over the outcome of the legal tussle at the tribunal.
“Well only want to  appreciate God for  the justice he granted to Ohuabunwa at the tribunal”, he said.
He said the judgment was a consolation that truth would always triumph over falsehood.
Dr. Eke said the hope of Abia North people had been rekindled that their stolen mandate would be restored by the judiciary.
He expressed the conference that Ohuabunwa would sweep the poll during the supplementary election if the court of appeal affirms the tribunal’s judgement.
Eke thanked the supporters and urged them to remain steadfast  in their support for Ohuabunwa  who he said had given a very good account of himself during his first tenure at the red chamber.
