The Justice Aliyu Sanusi-led Supreme Court panel struck out the appeal filed by the APC seeking to be allowed to field candidates in the forthcoming general election in Rivers State.
The court struck out the appeal by the APC challenging the judgment of a High Court in Rivers State which barred it from conducting any primaries in the state.
In the judgement, Justice Aliyu Sanusi, ruled that the preliminary objection raised by the respondents, Ibrahim Umah and 22 other aggrieved members of the APC, had substance and therefore, struck out the appeal by the APC.
The judgment is a big blow on the political ego and fortunes of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi whose struggles for political dominance of the state have been significantly whittled down.
With APC off the way, the forthcoming polls in Rivers are expectedly going to be a mere work -over for the ruling PDP.
The development has also affirmed Wike’s political clout and supremacy in the state at least for now.
