Abia specialist hospital CMD gets int’l appointment

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Hospital,Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, has been appointed into the African Regional Board of the International Society of Nephrology.
His letter of appointment was jointly signed by the Chair, ISN, African Regional Board, Mohamed Salah; Deputy Chair,
Robert Kalysubula; and President
Marcello Tonelli.
Dr Okwuonu, a former Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Abia State chapter, is the fourth Nigerian physician to serve on the prestigious Board.
His predecessors on the Board included Prof. Ifeoma Ulasi, Prof. Fatiu Arogundade , and Dr Ebun Bamgboye.
A copy of the letter sighted by Wawa News Global read in part:”The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) needs you and your energy to meet the goal of improving kidney health through innovative worldwide solutions.
“The global burden of kidney disease is complicated: its impact varies in different countries and regions, but in all
areas the impact on people’s lives is profound.
“We need a multi-pronged approach, customized for each region and country, but adhering to a set of core principles and ethics. Effective science, education, public policy and people are needed, and the diversity that exists around the world must be harnessed to collaboratively work toward better outcomes for our patients.
“Due to your active engagement with one or more ISN activities, we would like to invite you to join the ISN Africa Regional Board for an initial period of approximately 2 years ending at the World Congress of Nephrology 2027, but with a possibility of renewal following review by the Regional Board
for the next term.”
Wawa News Global check revealed that ISN has 10 regions, and each region has a Regional Board representing it.
