Otti inaugurates health insurance complex at FMC in honour of Sen Adighije

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, weekend, inaugurated a medical complex built by the Management of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Umuahia, in honour of a former Chairman of its Governing Board, Senator Chris Adighije, who clocked 80 years.
According to the Management of the hospital, the building marked “Senator Chris Adighije Health Insurance Complex (SCAHIC)”, is meant to imortalise the elder statesman for his numerous contributions in transforming the hospital while holding sway as the Chairman of its Governing Council.
Recall that Senator Adighije who represented Abia Central from 2003-2007, was appointed Chairman of the FMC Umuahia Governing Board by former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 2000-2002.
The elder statesman who also represented Abia in the Revenue Mobilsation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, was later appointed the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In his remarks at the event, the incumbent Chairman of the FMC Governing Board, Hon. Matthew Uguru, commended Senator Adighije for laying a good foundation upon which his successors had built.
He said it was the consensus of the current Board and Management of the hospital to imortalise the Octogenarian by naming the complex after him, and wished him well in his new age.
Speaking at the glamorous ceremony witnessed by dignitaries who had attended an earlier church service in honour of the elder statesman, the Medical Director of the hospital, gave reasons for the project.
According to him, having a separate building for health insurance scheme will enhance efficient service delivery and accountability in the scheme.
The CMD who decried the rot that had hitherto plagued the scheme vowed to deal with anyone found in any form of sharp practices over the scheme.
He said it was not proper for those who registered under the Health Insurance Scheme who came to share the same space with outpatients, hence, the need for a separate building for the scheme.
“We, therefore, decided on a separate building that will house the Health Insurance Scheme and digitize its operations with the necessary technology that would enable us to monitor the operations effectively and seamlessly, both centrally and from our phones”, the CMD said.
He described Senator Adighije as a hero and a reputable elder statesman with a lot of positive impacts on lives.
In his brief remarks, Gov. Otti thanked the management of the hospital for its decision to honour Senator Adighije who he also described as a man of great integrity.
Otti who shared his personal experiences with Senator Adighije commended him for being a source of encouragement to him at various times.
The Labour Party Governor revealed that Adighije was one of Abia elders who supported his governorship ambition in 2023 although a chieftain of a different political party.
He said: “This is a brilliant man but, most importantly, people have talked about his goodness. For me, he is more than a good man, a man that will put his life on the line for you if he believes in your cause.
“That was why when I came out to contest in 2014, it didn’t matter to him that we are not in the same party, but he supported me publicly”.
Former Minister for Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, was at the inauguration.
Similarly, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; former Senate President, Senator David Mark; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe among others, attended the 80th birthday anniversary church service held earlier in honour of Senator Adighije at the FMC Chapel.
