Abia North won’t be represented by Ruga promoter again – Isuikwuato stakeholders
* Vow to return Ohuabunwa to senate
By Steve Oko
Political stakeholders in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, have vowed that Abia North would never be represented at the Senate by any “promoter of Ruga”.
They made the vow while hosting Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North at the eight Senate.

Speaking on behalf of his kinsmen, one of the stakeholders, Hon. Godwin Okezie, regretted that the people had been abandoned by the one who should be their mouthpiece at the centre amid the raging insecurity in the zone.
He regretted that since the siting of the Regional Cattle Market in Umunneochi, Abia North had become prone to insecurity.
Okezie, therefore, said that anyone involved in siting the market or promoting ‘Ruga’ should not expect the votes of Isuikwuato people again.
He vowed that come 2023, Isuikwuato people would help Senator Ohuabunwa to reclaim his stolen mandate.
Describing Ohuabunwa as an astute Parliamentarian who had distinguished himself in the art of lawmaking, Okezie said that Isuikwuato people had decided to deliver the former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament come 2023.
He recalled that when Ohuabunwa was at the Senate, Abia North had quality representation contrary to the near silence of the zone now at the red chamber.
Speaking on behalf of the women fold, Mrs Ngozi Enwerem, said that Abia North had learned their bitter lesson from the ” 2019 mistake”.
She said Abia North would not have been so ravaged by insecurity if Ohuabunwa were in the Senate as he would have used his privileged position to seek intervention for the people.
Mrs Enwerem assured Senator Ohuabunwa who is the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate at the forthcoming poll of the total support of Isuikwuato women.
In a remark, the PDP candidate for Isuikwuato state constituency,Hon. Lucky Johnson, decried the activities of bandits in Abia North, promising to spare no efforts in ensuring that the perpetrators were flushed out of the area.
He described Ohuabunwa as a genius in lawmaking who did not deserve to be on the bench while neophytes represented the zone.
Johnson urged the people to vote massively for PDP in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the event, Ohuabunwa thanked the people of Isuikwuato for their show of unflinching support for him, describing them as dependable allies.
He promised to restore the dignity of Abia North if returned to the Senate in 2023.
The former Chairman, Senate Committee on Primary Health and Communicable Disease, said it was regrettable that the blind were allowed to lead men with sight.
He said that time had come for the dignity of Abia North to be restored.
Ohuabunwa also regretted that he did not return to the Senate for his constituents to benefit from the dividends of some of his Bills that had become law.
According to him, the Abia North is yet to benefit from the Achor Borrowers Credit Scheme of the Central Bank which is the byproduct of his Agric Credit Loan Scheme Bill.
He blamed it on the inability of his successor to tap into the gains of the Act to empower his constituents.
Senator Ohuabunwa said that a selfish individual could not be a Parliamentarian, arguing that lawmaking is all about the people.
The former Leader, House of Representatives who explained that “not everybody is carved out for lawmaking”, said that those who have the calling should be allowed to represent the people.
He said Abia North should never again be represented by “jesters”, hence his resolve to return to the Senate to give the zone a quality representation.
” Being at the Senate is all about speaking for your people and getting their share from the centre and bringing it home for them to have the feel of democracy.
” It’s all about boldly standing for your people and championing their cause. It’s not abandoning them to their fate or sacrificing their interest on the altar of political convenience.
” Being at the Senate is beyond building half-killometer Dubai road in few communities to deceive the people when you have abandon major road and other projects that should come to the zone.”
Continuing, Ohuabunwa asked:”Where is the road commissioned in April at Uzo Rubber with pomps and pageantry? Go there today and you won’t see any evidence of road in the place!”
He promised to do better than he had ever done if voted back to the Senate in 2023.
