Step down for Abaribe to avoid humiliating defeat in 2023, APGA tells Ikpeazu
By Steve Oko
Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has been advised not to contest against the incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the Abia Central senatorial contest in 2023 to avoid a humiliating defeat awaiting him at the poll.
Wawa News Global reports that Ikpeazu, a second-term Governor, is the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Abia Central senatorial race.
Ehiemere who gave the advice at a press conference Tuesday in Umuahia, after the State Executive Council meeting of the party, said ” Ikpeazu has nothing to offer” at the Senate, hence, he should not bother contesting for the office.
The APGA boss argued that it would be a disservice to Ndigbo for “a performing Senator to be replaced by a failed Governor”.
According to Ehiemere, Ikpeazu’s scorecard as a sitting Governor is no match to Abaribe’s landmark achievements at the red chamber.
He said that Abaribe had distinguished himself at the Senate both in legislative businesses and attraction of projects.
” It’s not in doubt that Senator Abaribe is the only known and fearless voice of the South East in the current Senate, and the people of Abia Central cannot afford to dump him for a governor who has not justified his two terms in office.

Ikpeazu and Abaribe
” I don’t know what Ikpeazu is going to do at the Senate. If he could not fix the roads in his constituency with all the available resources as Governor for eight years, how will he do the magic as a senator without allocations?
” I have seen Abaribe’s performances; besides being the only vocal senator for South East, he has also been able to do what Ikpeazu could not do as Governor.
” There is no community in Abia South that doesn’t feel the impact of Abaribe. For the past six days he has been going about commissioning projects but he makes no noise about it”.
The APGA Chairman challenged Ikpeazu to show cause that he would deliver as a senator what he could not do as a Governor with more funds at his disposable.
Ehiemere said that if more Igbo senators were like Abaribe, the South East would not have been relegated to the background in the scheme of things in the country..
Responding to an inquiry, Ehiemere denied any rift between the APGA governorship candidate, Professor Greg Ibe, and his running mate, Hon. Obinna Ichita, saying that the duo are still enjoying cordial relationship.
Ehiemere said that those who felt threatened by the swelling support across the state for APGA were behind the various propaganda being peddled against the party.
He dismissed the recent judgement by Abuja High Court nullifying APGA’s governorship primary as “a supermarket judgement”, which cannot withstand the scrutiny of the Appeal court.”
Ehiemere urged APGA members and supporters not to lose sleep about the judgement which he said had been appealed.
He expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved in favour of the party at the Appellate court.
Ehiemere said that the legal team of APGA was handling the matter and would deal with it accordingly ..
He dismissed as ridiculous, statements credited to Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu laying claims to the chairmanship of APGA in the state.
The APGA Chairman said that “Ukaegbu is an impostor who comes around every four years to claim the leadership of APGA in the state”.
According to him, Ukaegbu’s name is not in APGA’s register and should not be taken seriously.
Ehiemere said that the claims by Ukaegbu that arrangements were on to effect the Abuja court were a joke taken too far.
He solicited the unflinching support of Abians for APGA and its candidates in their quest to liberate the Abia from bondage.
Ehiemere predicted that APGA would claim the state and the entire South East in,2023 , as a sign of rejection for APC and PDP by the zone.
He said Professor Ibe was coming on board to give birth to new Abia.
