I ‘ll rebuild ABSUTH – Greg Ibe
By Steve Oko
The Abia state gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) Professor Greg Ibe, has promised to rebuild and restore the glory of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba if voted into power in 2023.
The Professor of Entrepreneur who made the promise on a live radio programme monitored in Umuahia, decried the deplorable condition of the hospital due to neglect by the State Government.
He noted that the abandonment of ABSUTH by Government led to eventual collapse of the institution.
His words:” I am particularly pained by government’s outright abandonment of ABSUTH, the only tertiary health institution we have in the state. How can you refuse to pay workers salaries for more than 20 months and still expect the hospital to function maximally?
” Well, Abians shouldn’t worry since I have concluded plans to rebuild and restore the glory of ABSUTH if elected governor in 2023. Remember that my company Skill G Ltd. designed and built that hospital almost 20 years ago, so rebuilding it will not be difficult”.
Emphasizing the prime position of health in his New Abia vision, Prof Ibe revealed plans to build and equip general hospitals in the 17 Local Government Councils of the state, “as a means of stimulating the secondary health sector and bringing medicare closer to the people”.
He stated that he intends to leverage the data collated from the just concluded Prof Gregory Ibe Free Medical and Surgical Outreach in ensuring the provision of unique health solutions to specific groups and communities within the state.
In his words,”Arising from the free medical outreach, our team of medical personnel was able to identify diseases that are peculiar to specific regions of the state. Subsequently, we intend to leverage their findings in packaging and despatching to specific communities only those medical solutions that are relevant to the people of the area”.
Wawa News Global reports that Professor Ibe recently sponsored the treatment of more than 12,000 patients in a state wide medical and surgical outreach that deployed an itinerant team of 62 medical personnel, who transversed 16 Local Government Councils of Abia providing medical solutions freely to the people.
