The return bid of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa to the red chamber four years after his exit from the upper legislative chamber received a major boost Sunday as Counsellors in all five Local Government Areas in Abia North adopted him as their consensus candidate for the 2023 senatorial contest in the zone.

Moving the motion for his adoption after a meeting with the Counsellors that lasted for hours at the Ojukwu Bunker Umuahia, the Leader, Isuikwuato Legislative Council, Hon. Okechukwu Onuoha, said that Abia North had been under-represented and had almost been rendered voiceless since the exit of Ohuabunwa in 2019, hence the need to return him for qualitative representation of the zone.

Wawa News Global reports that the motion was unanimously adopted by the Counsellors who thronged out in their numbers, pledging unalloyed support for Senator Ohuabunwa.
The Counsellors who took turns to pour out their heart regretted the circumstances that led to Ohuabunwa’s ouster in 2019, but vowed never again to allow such error.
They vowed to deliver their respective polling units to Senator Ohuabunwa who they said had proven to be an unassailable lawmaker and national pride.
The Counsellors regretted that Abia North had become ” a laughing stock at the Senate”, and vowed to correct the anomally.

” Time has come for Abia North to send its first 11 to the Senate; the era of mediocrity is gone”, they vowed.
Addressing the Counsellors, Senator Ohuabunwa thanked them for their decision, and for reposing confidence in him.
He promised not to disappoint them, and urged them to remain resolute in their avowed decision to restore the dignity of Abia North.
The former Speaker ECOWAS Parliament recalled his role in attracting the rehabilitation of the Umuahia-Ohafia-Arochukwu Road while he was in the Senate but regretted that ever since he left the red chamber, the project had not been delivered.
He also regretted that the Umuahia-Uzuakoli -Isuikwuato Road which was awarded to an Abia North son for repairs at the tune of N2 billion in 2018 had gone bad again.
Senator Ohuabunwa recalled further that most of his bills which were passed into law including the Bill on the control of communicable diseases, as well as the one that led to the establishment of the centre for cancer treatment.
Ohuabunwa who also said his Bill led to the floating of Anchor Borrowers scheme of the Central Bank, promised to up the game and restore the dignity of Abia North if returned to the Senate in 2023.
