Vaguard man, Steve Oko emerges vice chair as Abia NUJ Correspondents chapel elects new exco

The Correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State, Tuesday inaugurated a new executive to pilots its affairs in the next three years.
Comrade Obinna Ibe of the Blueprint Newspapers was returned unopposed as the new Chairman of the six-member exco; while the Correspondent of Vanguard Newspapers, Steve Oko, who was the immediate-past Secretary emerged as the Vice Chairman, also unopposed.

Wawa News Global gathered that Henrietta Ashikodi of Statesman who was the Assistant Secretary in the former exco stepped in as the Secretary.
Other members of the new exco include : Chidi Odinah of AIT, Treasurer; Lawrence Nwokedi of Radio Nigeria, Financial Secretary; and Linus Effiong of Daily Trust, Auditor.
Speaking at the Triennial Congress, NUJ Chairman, Abia State, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, charged members of the new exco to remain good ambassadors of NUJ, and ensure compliance of Correspondents with the ethics of the jounalism profession.
He congratulated them on their emergence and wished them well.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of other members of the exco, the Chairman, Comrade Ibe, thanked members of the chapel for giving them another opportunity to serve, and pledged to run an all-inclusive administation.
He also promised to continue the fight against quacks to restore the dignity of the journalism profession.
Earlier in his address, Chairman of the Credentials Committee and a former Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Emma Ugwu of this day, commended members for their maturity and comportment as his committee patiently handled the bottlenecks that delayed the election which was due last October.
He expressed delight that at last, a new exco had been successfully inaugurated.
The exercise was witnessed by NUJ officials and Chairmen of other chapels.
