The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State, Mr Nwoba Chika Nwoba, amazed his audience last Saturday when his wedding cake designed with Biafra’s logo, colour and flag, was unveiled.
After taking his wife to the altar at St. Joseph Anglican church, Ekpelu, Nwoba and his guests retired to Community Primary School, Ekpelu, Ikwo Local Government Area, for a larvish reception.
It was a moment of mild drama and mixed reactions when the Master of Ceremony ordered for the unveiling of the wedding cake as the mammoth crowd of guests at the reception was shocked to see the strange wedding cake.
The cake was designed with black, red and green colours as it has the coat of arm and the flag of the defunct Biafra Republic.
It also has the insignia of a rising sun, and there was a spontaneous ovation from the curious guests.
Since the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, a formidable pro-Biafra movement in the South East, anyone caught with any Biafra insignia has always been a guest to security agencies.
Such persons who are so lucky to escape instant death are usually charged for treason and terrorism.
Meanwhile, Mr Nwoba, told newsmen that he decided to do his wedding cake with Biafra insignia as a show of solidarity to Biafra agitation.
The PDP Spokesman said he commited no crime by his action as it is part of his fundamental rights to determine which colour to choose for his wedding cake.
He further argued that every Igbo irrespective of their political affiliation should identify with the struggle for Biafra restoration which, according to him remains the only hope of the race’s survival.
The PDP chieftain, however, said he did not believe in nor support agitation for Biafra through violence.
He said that violence never worked for any cause, insisting that dialogue remains the best option.
“I actually did it to pass a message, that no matter our political inclinations, we still have the interest of Igbo nation at heart. It is to show my love and my commitment towards ensuring that the gospel for the creation of a country of Igbo extraction, comes to fruition.
“So, I’m a fan of Biafra agitation. That’s why I said, okay, in order to contribute to the Biafra struggle, I have to do my cake, giving it a Biafra colors. I’m not against Biafra agitation, but I’m against going about it violently. I did it just to show my concern,” Nwoba submitted.
