Igbo youths under the eagis of  Coalition  of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the umbrella body of all the youth groups in the South East geopolitical zone, have hailed the emergence of the immediate-past Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia State.
Congratulating Ogah on his landslide victory, COSEYL described his victory at the primaries as theas the Abia State APC gubernatorial candidate in a very transparent All Progressive Congress, APC, primaries.
COSTLY in a statement by its National President, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, described Ogah’s emergence as a good omen for Abia State.
The statement read in part:”As youth leaders of the zone saddled with the responsibility of protecting the collective interest of our people at all times, we were really impressed by the APC gubernatorial primaries that produced Dr Uche Ogah as winner.
“It was truly a very transparent exercise by all standard. The party delegates and party  faithful who took part in the primaries conducted themselves in a very good manner and we are really impressed with what we saw. “
COSTLY commended APC delegates for not succumbing to monetary inducements during the exercise.
“There was no room for monetary inducement as the NEC of APC gave a directive that the power to elect the governorship candidate of the party be thrown to the people.
“Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah’s victory of the direct primary election which took place in the 184 wards in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state threw the people to shout for joy as the returning officer, Barr. Perfect Okorie declared him winner.”
Out of the total of 195,801 votes cast, the former Minister polled 141,952 votes to beat his closest rival, Paul Ikonne who got 27,054.
“Though we are non-partisan in all sense of word, our interest  hangs on the fact that the people were given the opportunity to elect anybody aspirant of their choice without any molestation or coercion . Democracy was truly practiced.
“Of the truth, the outcome of the election is a reflection of the total will of the party faithfuls and Abians.
“The electoral amendment process that has been causing confusion could have been settled if other states had taken the APC example in Abia.”
