* We ‘ll all be consumed – former SSG

Controversy has trailed the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries in Abia State with some members crying foul over the exercise.
A party chieftain and senatorial aspirant, Chief Chuku Wachuku, has warmed the party against self destruct.
This is as the Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, and an aspirant for Obingwa/Osisioma/ Ugwunagbo federal constituency, Hon. Michael Nwoke, has boycotted the primaries, alleging inconsistencies.
Just as the former Chairman of PDP and one of its governorship aspirants, Senator Emma Nwaka, has warmed PDP against self destruct and toiling in vain.
“We must avoid a situation where we will become by our own deliberate fault bystanders as strangers reap the benefits of our hard work over the years”, Nwaka warned.
Elder statesman and the immediate past Secretary of State Government, SSG Dr Eme Okoro, said the impending avoidable disaster would consume every member of the party.
He described the refusal of the party leadership to heed wise counsel, and expressed disappointment over the entire development.
“The unheeded wise counsel of honest Elders will come to haunt and harass ALL in the poverty-stricken state of Abia. May He help all who will survive the impending debacle”, the former SSG said.
Wachuku said that the party leadership could have saved the party from avoidable crisis by following due process in organising the exercise.
He warned that PDP candidates might lose their seats in court if the legal issues being raised by the way the party was going about its delegate congress and primaries were not resolved.
The former Director General National Directorate of Employment, NDE, ib a statement Sunday said: “I have had to advise the party on two previous occasions, to resolve the legal issues surrounding the ad-hoc delegates.
“ What would our party gain by creating avoidable crises”? What would my party gain by winning the elections, and subsequently lose the seat through a faulty legal procedure?
“Currently, almost all aspirants have been disenfranchised. More so, all the party structures:- LGA executives, Ward Excos have been told, in no uncertain terms, that they are of no consequence to the party.
“Threat of mass exodus is real!
Let us save the party now by doing the right thing.”
The Obingwa Council boss who disclosed his stepping aside from the exercise in a statement wrote:
“It is with deep sense of commitment, determination and focus that I Hon. Ibe Michael Nwoke seeking to represent you at the green Chambers in 2023 write to officially step aside from participating in today’s primaries of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party.
“My reason stems from several court orders, confusion on the use of the 3 Man ad-hoc delegates for the conduct of the primaries, and inconsistencies which I do not want to be party to, until we get further clarifications.
“To this end, I urge all the delegates and supporters who believed in me in my great constituency to keep hope alive as the days ahead will be brighter and better.”
Senator Nwaka expressed worry over the controversies arising from the party’s delegate congress, saying it could consume PDP if unresolved.
Nwaka who insisted that power should rotate back to Abia North, and to Isuikwuato division in particular which represents the letter ‘i’ in the Abia acronym for equity and justice, said he was the most qualified to fly the party’s flag in 2023.
He said that he had the magic wand to stabilize the party as he did while holding sway as the state Chairman, while advising delegates against compromise.
“Our founding fathers in their wisdom in a sacred document agreed that none of the four constituent districts of our State, namely: old Afikpo, old Bende, Isuikwuato District and old Aba Division shall be left out in the allocation of the highest office in the land. As of date, three of the component units have had their turns in running and directing the affairs of the our State except Isuikwuato District where I come from.
“If through your votes we present as candidate someone with little, if at all, practical knowledge of the place of a political party and her members in a democracy, the tendency is that he will mess up our dear party and her members.
” Of all the gladiators angling to fly our guber flag, I consider myself the most eminently qualified to run the race on your behalf.I am a foundation member of our party and I have remained with you both in good and bad times.
“Given the versatility of my background: lawyer, Senator, rich boardroom experience and as an active participant in the executive branch of government, I am endowed with all it takes to provide effective leadership for our state such that it can begin to compare and compete favourably with her peers.
Acting Publicity Secretary of PDP, Elder Abraham Amah did not pick calls put across to him.
He had yet to call back as at the time of filing this report.
