A leading governorship aspirant of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, has said that it makes no sense investing state resources in building infrastructure when workers and pensioners die of hunger as a result of salary arrears.
The governorship hopeful who made the assertion while addressing newsmen in Umuahia, said that it takes the living to enjoy infrastructure and amenities.
He argued that in as much as he would not neglect the provision of necessary infrastructure if voted into power, his Government would never joke with workers’ welfare.
The philanthropist promised to wipe out the backlog of workers’salary and pension arrears within his first 100 days in office if elected Governor.
“My legacy in the first 100 days in office will be to pay off all the salary arrears of workers and pension arrears so that I can have fresh air to concentrate. I can’t be building houses and roads when our our parents are going to bed hungry.
Mayor Igbokwe, also said that 50% of his security vote as Governor would be deployed to tackling critical sectors of need especially workers’ welfare.
He, therefore, urged PDP delegates at the party’s forthcoming primaries to give him the party’s ticket, promising not to fail the people.
