Gregory varsity wins African award
Gregory University Uturu has been named the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the year 2021.
The award came at the 2nd Annual “African Medal of Honour Awards” by the Time Africa Magazine held recently at the National Merit Awards House in Abuja, Nigeria.
Gregory University received the award in recognition for exceptional teaching, research, student support, entrepreneurship, collaborations and outreach.
While declaring judgement, the judges hailed the University as a “hugely deserving winner” pointing out that at a time when universities are too often on the back foot in public debates about value and relevancein entrepreneurship, Gregory University stood out as a shining example of what a university should be, in courage and action, uniquely placed to tackle the biggest issues in Africa.
Presenting the award, Time Africa Magazine, noted that the brilliance on display by the University from the length and breadth of the country is a reminder of the role that universities must and will play in guiding the way through excellent education in Africa.
Receiving the award, the Chancellor, Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Gregory Ibe appreciated the award and described it as anvimportant recognition of the dedication of the hard working staff in supporting entrepreneurial students.
According to Prof. Ibe, the award also highlights the role the University is playing in supporting our economy adding that the Institutionn is proud to be able to support many undergraduates and graduates start up new businesses and SMEs in Africa.
Recall that Gregory University’s Entrepreneurship Centre is delivering practical entrepreneurship to students, thanks to cutting-edge research, first class teaching and effective partnerships while the Centre’s programmes have supported more than 5,000 students to become enterpreneurs and created 6,000 jobs to the enterpreneur coaches.
