2023: Abia North political leaders fire back at ‘PDP stakeholders’ over ‘myopic’ position on charter of equity
By Steve Oko
All may not have been heard of the brewing political feud in Abia North as Abia North Political Leaders, have countered the position of  Abia North Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stakeholders on the political interest of the zone come 2023.
Abia North PDP stakeholders had last week rejected going for any position in the forthcoming PDP National Convention, saying that the utmost interest of the zone is to produce the Abia governor in 2023.
But Abia North Political Leaders have in sharp contrast, faulted the position of the PDP stakeholders, dismissing it as “myopic,
self-serving, and lacking in strategic political thinking”.
According to the leaders, personal aspiration of any politician of Abia North extraction for any national political office in ones party provided such a person is eminently qualified, does not in any way negate the agitation for power shift to the zone in 2023.
The Leaders in a communique, vowed “to resists any selfish, compromised and disguised attempts of some unpatriotic individuals to drag Abia North by the nose, towards buying into a dummy or any pretensions that have the capacity to atrophy the political aspirations of qualified Abia
politicians within the context of our national and state politics”
The communique read in part: We the members of Abia North Political Leaders have read with dismay, a communique issued by a self-styled faction of politicians under the name of “PDP Abia North Stakeholder”, emanating from their meeting held at Umuahia on the 3rd day of September, 2021.
“The main thrust of the said communique stated thus, inter alia: That Abia North Senatorial District was not interested in any
office of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP), as the Party prepares to hold her National Congress in October 2021.
“While we respect the rights of
an alternate group to hold a contrary view under our democratic settings, we
nevertheless condemn their assertive postulations as self-serving, myopic
and lacking in strategic political thinking, especially as the two claims reflect two
parallel political aspirations within a unified political setting.
“We advocate and uphold the right of all qualified and politically minded
Abians to aspire and contest for the National Offices of their respective political parties, as zoned to their geopolitical areas. This has never proved an impediment to any alternate elective governorship office holdings in Abia
State, and there are numerous precedents to refer to.
” Without prejudice to the argument being adduced by some of our compatriots that the Governorship position has gone round and now open for any zone; we however, strongly support the Abia Charter of Equity that
accommodates the position of Abia North Senatorial District to field a qualified and acceptable candidate to contest the Governorship position of
Abia State, come 2023.
” In our view, this in no way contradicts or denies the right of qualified politicians of Abia North extraction, from contesting for
political offices of the National Working Committees of their respective
political parties holding in 2021, or at later
“Our group strongly resists any selfish, compromised and disguised
attempts of some unpatriotic individuals to drag the people of Abia North
Political Zone by the nose, towards buying into a dummy or any pretensions
that have the capacity to atrophy the political aspirations of qualified Abia
politicians within the context of our national and state politics.
“These presumptuous, visionless and lock-jam political stakeholders in Abia State
must be seen as truly disconnected from the emerging political trends of Abia
State and the nation. They desire to quit the scene now!
“We therefore call on our people of Abia North to remain focused on producing
competent leaders that both encapsulate the governance of Abia State, as
well as transcend to National Political offices within and above the Political
Parties. It should be a matter of seeking both available choices, – not a fixation
on Abia State Governorship slot alone!
“As Abia North seeks equitable participation and distribution of political dividends in our national and state politics, any move to the contrary by some misguided stakeholders, will be a journey into a futile destination.
“This is a sure route to a self-serving political oblivion for Abia North Senatorial District. It is a blind alley, never to be taken by visionary leaders!”
Signatories to the communique include: Hon. Chief Obinna Nwankwo ,Hon. Chief Tom Ezeikpe , Barr. Austin O. Mbaka, and
Hon. Orunta Amadi Obi.

Others are Hon. Orji Udeagha , Dr. Eme Okoro, Hon. Chief Mrs Ideh V. O. K. Anya, Chief Owoh Eleke and
Dr. Kenneth Madubuike among others .
