Lady Adanma Okpara, wife of the Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr Michael Iheonukara Okpara is dead.
She was reported to have died at the early hours of Sunday, August 22, 2021.
The late Lady Okpara will be 97 in December, 2021.
According to a family source, the late Adanma Okpara died after a protracted illness.
The nonagenarian has been sick for some years before before finally succumbing to death.
Several calls made to her second son, Chief Uzodinma Okpara on the matter on Sunday were not responded to as at press time, but informed sources said she died at an undisclosed hospital.
The incident was however, confirmed during a visit to the Umuegwu Okpuala, Ohuhu Umuahia North country home of the Okparas Sunday evening as kinsmen were on hand to receive sympathizers.
Her son Uzodinma , an Abia State based politician, was however, absent as at the time our reporter visited.
But an elderly woman in the community, who pleaded anonymity said she could not confirm or deny the news, adding that “Igbo tradition forbids any announcement on the health status of a prominent individual like that of Adanma Okpara without due consultations with relevant authorities”.
Meanwhile, since the demise of her husband, Dr. Michael Okpara in December 1984, the nonagenarian has lived a quiet life and rarely seen in public.
She was a strong pillar behind her husband during the political days of the 1950s and 1960s as Michael Okpara ruled the then Eastern Region with dedication and commitment to people’s welfare, centered on massive industrialization of the then Eastern Nigeria with agriculture as its centerpiece.
