The main opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia State, Thursday at its expanded caucus meeting held at the house of Chief Emeka Atuma at Ikwuano, re-affirmed the suspension of Chief Ikechi Emenike from the party.
This is coming less than 48 hours to the ward congress of the party scheduled for Saturday.
Chief Emenike is the husband of the incumbent Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America.
The expanded caucus which had in attendance major stakeholders of the party in the state was chaired by the Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uche Ogah.
According to the party, Chief Emenike has already been suspended by his Ward for anti-party activities while the Local Government and State Executive respectively ratified the sanction.
Ogah who chaired the expanded caucus put Emenike’s suspension to voice vote after it was announced by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, and the caucus overwhelmingly affirmed it.
The Minister held brief for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who was said to be on his way to the meeting when he was asked to return to Abuja for an emergency.
Some of the APC bigwigs present at the meeting were Senator Chris Adighije; former Minister for Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu; Rep. Sam Onuigbo; and the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Ben Kau.
Others were former Speakers of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka; and Martins Azubuike; former House of Representatives member, Chief Acho Obioma; Hon. Blessing Nwagba, among a host of others.
Senator Nkechi Nwogu was said to have been at the venue earlier while Chief Chris Akomas was said to have excused himself.
In his remarks, Ogah tasked members of the party on unity, and to eschew rancour, saying that it it will be easy for the party to take over power in the state if the members were united.
Speaking at the event, the state party Chairman, Nwankpa, urged members of the party to prepare for Saturday’s congress in obedience to the directive by the National Caretaker Committee of the party.
Nwankpa said the party would adopt consensus candidates were there are agreements among the stakeholders but hold elections where there is no consensus.
He urged party faithful to abide by the party guidelines, adding that there are no camps in Abia APC.
“:Any other person not part of Abia APC led by the caucus Chairman, Senator Orji Uzor, and Donatus Nwankpa as the state Chairman is fake”, he declared
Nwankpa warned that the party would not tolerate any imposition while urging members of the screening committee coming from Abuja to be guided by the party rules.
” We won’t allow APC to use Abia as a showcase of Illegality”, he warned
