Proliferation of security outfits can’t solve Nigeria’s worsening insecurity – Ohuabunwa

Former Chairman of Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, however noted that Nigeria’s security challenges would not be fixed by the proliferation of security outfits as being done by many regions, but by addressing issues of injustices in the nation.
He warned that the country might “slide into a state where everybody gets armed and begins to kill one another unless the fundamental issues of injustice, lack of economic opportunities, and lack of law and order are conciously addressed”.
The former President, Nigerian/American Chamber of Commerce, however said that the work of the Ebubeagu personnel should be more of intelligence gathering and not a combat force.
He said they should rather gather intelligence in their local communities about those planning to attack the people and pass the information to the central command for swift action.
” Wearing uniforms and parading the streets won’t help anybody. They should be more of intelligence gathering .
” They should not become another oppressor group to the poor masses to avoid the ugly situation that led to the#EndSARS protests.”
Mazi Ohuabunwa cautioned the governors to ensure the put in place structure for adequate funding of the personnel saying that” even if you give them (personnel) razor blades or catapult , they will use them to get money and that will things for everyone”.
