By Steve Oko
As the world observes International Women’s Day today, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North in the eight senate has called for an end to every impediment hindering women from attaining their goals in life.
The former Speaker ECOWAS Parliament who stated this in an interview in Abia, said all tiers of government should use resources at their disposal to ensure an end to every form of discrimination against women.
” Every obstacle hindering women from actualising their potentials should be removed, they need to be given level play ground to pursue their aspirations in life without interference”, he said.
Ohuabunwa said that women should be encouraged to participate in politics without encumbrances.
He however, advised that competence and capacity and not gender, should be the basis upon which political office holders should be determined.
The former Senate Committee Chairman for Primary Health Centre and Communicable Diseases, wished Nigeria women well as they join their global counterparts in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day.
