Ten persons were feared dead Wednesday afternoon in a fatal motor accident on the Aba/ Enugu Expressway.
The disaster occurred at the Ohiyya Umuahia axis of the dual carriage highway.
According to eyewitness account, the Enugu bound commercial bus which loaded at Aba went into flames following the bursting of the back tyre resulting into multiple summersaults.
The victims were said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Umuahia for medical attention.
Meanwhile, when newsmen visited the Accident & Emergence Unit of FMC where doctors were battling to save the lives of some of the victims, nobody was willing to speak with the press.
A source at the hospital which pleaded anonymity confirmed that three persons were dead on arrival, and that their bodies had already been deposited at the morgue.
The source said that about six victims were being treated following critical injuries sustained at the scene of the accident.
When contacted, the Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said he was not yet aware of the incident.
Efforts to get confirmation from the Public Relations Officer of the agency was unsuccessful as his phone line was switched off as at the time of filing this report
