Nigeria armed forces facing enormous challenges – Abia deputy gov

Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has bemoaned the fate of members of the Armed Forces in Nigeria who he said were daily faced with threatening challenges.
Oko Chukwu who spoke during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Umuahia particularly identified the on-going war against insurgency in the Northern region and threats by bandits as the worst moments for the Armed Forces in Nigeria.

The former Speaker Abia House of Assembly called for synergy among the necessary stakeholders to end the rising insecurity in the North which he lamented was posing a serious threat to the entire country.







He therefore, solicited support for security personnel in the country in view of the difficulties they face everyday in line of duty.
The Deputy Governor pledged continued support of the state government to security agencies in recognition of their complementary role in keeping society safe and secure.
He also paid glowing tributes to fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in defense of their father land.

The Deputy Governor who noted that the state had been very supportive to the state chapter of the Nigeria Legion pleged more support for widows and children of fallen heroes.

He later laid a wreath at the grave of an unknown soldier at Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph.
Similarly the Commander, 14 Brigade Nigeria Army, Ohafia, Brigadier General S. B Kumapayi, also laid a wreath at the grave in honour of fallen heroes.



Other service Chiefs in the state including the Commissioner of Police, and Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, were present at the colourful event which was the grand finale of the week-long annual ritual.
