Senator Emma Nwaka has cautioned Senator Shehu Sani not to thwist the facts over the position of the former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim that rotation of presidency should be based on the existing six geopolitical zones and not along tribal lines.
Anyim had while presenting a lecture at the just-concluded World Igbo Summit at the Gregory University Uturu, called for rotation of presidency among geopolitical zones in the country.
But Senator Sani in a swift response faulted the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation , SGF, claiming that Anyim’s position amounted to excluding Ndigbo in Rivers , Delta and others states outside the core South East zone.
Putting the records straight, Senator Nwaka said Anyim’s intention in his presentation did not in any way suggest exclusion of Igbo communities outside South East from the tribe unlike Sani was trying to impute.
His words: “Following up on the seminal lecture on ” Who  are the Real Igbo ” delivered by Senator Pius Anyim at the just concluded World Igbo Summit at Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State,  Senator Shehu Sani in a reposte, advised against the exclusion of ndi Igbo from Rivers, Delta and Benue State in Anyim’s  reckoning of the people that constitute the Igbo nation.
“To be sure, Senator Anyim expressed no intention to exclude them as our Kith and kin. However,  the rotation of the presidency of  Nigeria is based on the six regional structure of the country and not on ethnic nationality.
“That being the case, all we are saying is that  it is the turn of ndi Igbo of the South East region made up of Abia, Anambra,  Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States to produce the next president of Nigeria.
“Of course, we shall count on the support of our brothers and sisters from the neighbouring states including that of  every Nigerian of voting age that the ends of equity and justice may be served”.
Senator Nwaka who was a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, advised Sani against quoting Senator Anyim out of context or sowing the seed of discord among brothers.
He maintained that for justice and equity to prevail in the Nigeria political landscape, power should be rotated among the political zones in the country.
