Sen Orji tasks successor on equitable distribution of project
By Steve Oko
Senator Theodore Orji representing Abia Central district at the senate, has charged whoever that would succeed him in 2023 to ensure equitable distribution of constituency projects among the political wards in the zone.
The former Governor who has severally hinted that he would be retiring from active politics come 2023 gave the charge while inspecting some of his on-going constituency project in the district.
Some of the projects inspected by the senator include: healthcare centres at Ukome and Ohokobe Afara respectively, a 12-classroom block at Okwuta, and a hospital project at Umuariaga, Ikwuano Local Government Area.
Orji who expressed satisfaction at the pace of work at the sites assured that the projects would be delivered before the end of the year.
The two term senator who said he would not seek fresh mandate in 2023 urged whoever that would succeed him to ensure that constituency projects are evenly distributed across the district to accord every political ward a sense of belonging.
Orji also tasked people in authority on projects that have direct impacts on the people.
“You should carry the people along. They matter alot. You have to be inclusive and bring the people along.
“Let them know what you are doing. What you are doing should be people-oriented and not individual-centred. You should also fear God if you want to succeed”, Orji advised.
Responding to the wave of defection that has hit the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state following the recent defection of Hon. Sam Onuigbo, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, at the House of Representatives, Senator Orji said the decampees knew what was chasing them and what they were pursuing.
He explained that politics was a game of risk which the players should be ready to bear depending on the outcome of their actions.
“If you go there and it is better for you, that is ok. But it if you go there and it is not good for you, it is ok. That is politics. You cannot hold any person to a particular place.”
