The candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gov. Godwin Obaseki may be heading for a second term in office as he maintains a clear lead in the results of the Saturday governorship poll so far released.
According to the results of nine Local Government areas already published at the website of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP candidate garnered a total of 164,167 votes ahead of his main challenger, Pastor Ize -Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress, APC who scored 112,335 votes.
More results are expected to be officially uploaded soon but there is already celebration in the PDP camp as the party claims most of the results declared at the polling units are in its favour.
The PDP Campaign Director, Gov. Yesom Wike of Rivers State who has remained on ground in Benin City since Friday despite orders by the police IG to leave the state had urged INEC to announce the remaining results as declared at the various polling units.
Wike also warned INEC not to declare the election inconclusive.
