Abia IPAC dissolves exco over alleged betrayal
 By Steve Oko
The Abia State chapter of the Inter -Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has announced the dissolution of its Ceekay Igara -led state executive.
Former Deputy Chairman of the body, Hon. Enwereuzo Ogbonna, announced the dissolution at a press conference in Umuahia.
Ogbonna who accused the Igara -led exco of “tyranny, disloyalty and betrayal of the goals and visions” of the body announced himself as the Chairman of the Interim management committee.
Other members of the interim committee according to him include : Benjamin Arisa, Secretary;  Chinedum Ohuonu, Juliet Nwoko, and Nkem Nwankwo.
Hon. Ogbonna who was flanked by other members of the interim management committee  said the decision was reached at the General Assembly Meeting of IPAC.
He said that over 50 registered political parties present in Abia were united in the decision following their disappointment and  loss of confidence in the Igara -led exco.
According to a communique which he read, the dissolved exco had failed to galvanize the various political parties in the state towards achieving the objectives of IPAC.
He promised to unite the different political parties and to vigorously pursue IPAC’s primary objective which is emplacement of free and fair political culture and ensuring good governance.
Asked what he would do differently to actualise the said objective having been part and parcel of the dissolved execute, Ogbonna said that his emergence meant  “unification and harmonisation of the political parties in the state.
He explained that contrary to notion in some quarters, IPAC was not meant to be an opposition party but a fulcrum to engineer political culture and good governance through positive engagement of the party in power.
He declared the willingness of IPAC in the state to synergise with the Abia State Government, the electoral umpire as well as security agencies to ensure prevalence of peace and good governance in the state.
But when contacted, the Chairman of the dissolved exco dismissed his purported dissolution as a charade.
He said that those behind his purported removal were only angry because their parties were registered by INEC, but said they misdirected their anger.
Hon. Igara who doubles as the Leader of  Labour Party in the state, insisted that he remained IPAC boss in the stat.
His words : “My attention has been drawn to a statement credited to one Uzo Ogbonna claiming to have removed me as IPAC Abia State Chairman and saying all sorts of things.
“I would have not joined issues with drowning people who ought to take their matters to both INEC, The Court and IPAC National Headquarters for solution rather than transferring their angers to the wrong place.
“However, to put the records straight, I therefore state as follows:- I Hon Ceekay Igara remains the State Chairman of IPAC Abia State. (All 18 Registered Political Parties in Abia State).
“The Uzo Ogbonn’s followers are made up of all the deregistered political parties in Abia State.
“It should be on record that once you are deregistered as a party,  you automatically stop being a member of IPAC.
“If Supreme Court reinstate their status as political parties, we will receive them back.
“Accusing me of carrying a trailer load of Rice and money from Abia State government as palliative is nonsense. They have every right to find it if I received a grain of Rice either for IPAC or for any other purpose.”
