Nnamdi Kanu fumes over arrest of 70 IPOB members
*Complains to UK, US
* Says peaceful agitation shouldn’t be construed for weakness
By Steve Oko
Pained by the incessant harassment and torture of his members by security operatives, Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, has complained to the United Kingdom, and the United States of America respectively over the recent arrest of 70 IPOB members in Owerri, Imo State.
Recall that a combined team of the police and army personnel arrested 70 IPOB members in Owerri, claiming they were on their way to a certain powerful native doctor at Ohaji Egbema.
But piqued by the development, Kanu called on Britain and US to take note of the humiliations being meted out to peaceful agitators while violent terrorists wrecking havoc on Nigerians are being treated with kid gloves .
Kanu in a press statement he personally signed Friday queried the rationale behind the incessant persecution of unarmed peaceful agitators while killer terrorists are granted state pardon.
“We wish to draw the attention of UK in Nigeria, the US State Department through U.S. Mission Nigeria, to the deliberate and orchestrated provocation of the current government of Nigeria directed at peaceful Biafrans.
“Without provocation and having not committed any crime known to law, a group of Biafrans numbering over 70 were arrested, humiliated and detained by one Isaac Olutayo Akinmoyede who is the Police Commissioner in Imo State.
” Despite the daily carnage and mayhem in Imo State by terrorists, no single Fulani man is in police custody. This Isaac Olutayo Akinmode is yet to arrest or parade any Fulani suspect involved in the killings and destruction of farmlands in Imo State but he had the temerity to detain innocent people going about their business because they are Igbo and not Fulani.
“Isaac Olutayo Akinmode and Hope Uzodinma are saying that Biafrans can be arrested at will even when no crime has been committed but Fulani terrorists are free to roam and kill at will.
“This level of provocation is unacceptable. If and when Biafran people decide to take matters into their own hands, let it be on record that Isaac Olutayo Akinmode and Hope Uzodinma are the cause of it.
“Peaceful agitation should not be construed as weakness”.
