Ohuabunwa tasks Sen Orji Kalu on completion of Arochukwu/ Ohafia road
By Steve Oko
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North senatorial district in the eight senate, has tasked his successor and former Governor of the state , Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, to ensure the completion of the Arochukwu /Ohafia federal road.
Ohuabunwa who made the appeal Friday during the burial of the late Dr. Nkemka Jombo – Ofo at Ugwuavor, Arochukwu, regretted that the pace of work on the road had slacked since he left the senate in 2019.
The former Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament noted that he worked so hard to attract the project and had vigorously pursued it but regretted that the project had suffered a setback following his exit from the senate.
He, therefore, enjoined Kalu to ensure he followed up from where he (Ohuabunwa) stopped, and ensure the completion of the project.
Ohuabunwa said that since Kalu could not facilitate the rehabilitation of the road while he (Kalu) held sway as Abia governor for eight years, it would only be proper now that he is at the senate, to spare no efforts in pursuing its completion to prove his true concern for the people.
His words :” I welcome my brother and successor at the senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to this event. He has seen the deplorable condition of the Arochukwu/Ohafia road. As we can see, work on this road has slowed down since I left the senate.
” Now that he is at the senate I want him to continue from where I stopped so that the project will not be abandoned.”
Recall that Ohuabunwa who attracted the project had also facilitated the appropriation of N1. 4 billion for the project in the 2019 federal budget, but work on the road has been on a snail-pace, a sad development many attribute to his inability to return to the red chamber.
Ohuabunwa also facilitated the segmentation of the project into two namely : Bende Ohafia, and Ohafia /Arochukwu axis for speedy execution.
Although some portion of the federal highway especially along Ohafia axis has been repaired, the people believe that pressure from the senator would fast-track its completion to end the misery of the people.
But Kalu, during his speech did not respond to the challenge.
The former governor, however, did not give reasons for his silence.
