Insecurity: OYC backs Abaribe’s call for Buhari’s resignation
By  Steve Oko
Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has thrown its weight behind the call by the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe for the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over the inability of his government to contain the growing insecurity in the country.
Senator Abaribe had while contributing to the debate on the floor of the senate on Wednesday over the worsening insecurity in the country, said should the President fail to honourably resign, Nigerians would be left with no option than to use stone and chase Buhari and his party out of power for failing to protect lives and property.
Reacting to Abaribe’s remarks which have also generated wide commendations among Nigerians, the National President of OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, said Buhari’s government had failed woefully considering the spate of beheading of innocent Nigerians by Islamic extremists in the country.
The OYC  helmsman also said that “Ndigbo have lost total confidence in  Nigeria’s security architecture and its leaders”, adding that “the body language of the President Buhari entails one who lacks the political will, capacity and capability to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country”.
Igboayaka said “there were shocking feelers from certain quarters that Igboland may have been earmarked  for imminent invasion by terrorists already plaguing some regions and now extending their incursion  to other parts of the country.”
The OYC President in a press release by his Media Assistant, Chukwuemeka Chimerue, called  on all Igbo youths “to rise up and counter any possible attack or invasion of Igboland by herdsmen, terrorist or  jihadists”.
Igboayaka also called on Igbo youths to rally round OYC’s move “to protect our boundaries, beginning from Kogi, Benue, Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states”.
He also  urged them to prepare themselves in defense of attacks from criminals such as herdsmen, jihadists and other alien invaders.
OYC challenged the  Nigeria government to sit up, warning that any attack on Ndi Igbo in any form may spell doom for the country.
The statement asked President Buhari to save Nigeria from needless ethnic /religous crisis or civil unrest by throwing in the towel honourably.
OYC  called on churches and Christian leaders “to be more pro-active on issues of security of lives and properties, rather than merely engaging only in prayers”.
