Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North senatorial district in the eight senate, Monday distributed empowerment items including  wrappers, bags of rice and drugs worth millions of Naira to his constituents.

The senator has meanwhile , appealed to the President Muhammadu Buhari -led Federal Government, to find ways to cushion the excruciating effect of the biting economic down turn in the country.

Ohuabunwa who made the appeal during his annual empowerment programme and free medical outreach in his Atani Arochukwu community expressed concern over the growing number of indigent people in society.

He noted that the number of people who turned up for the exercise was triple the number that showed up in the previous exercises.

The former Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament who attributed the growing hunger in the land to bad economic policies appealed to the federal government to find a quick fix through social investment policies to prevent more avoidable deaths.

Ohuabunwa who said that too many Nigeria families hardly feed well nowadays also advocated economic revival through robust agricultural programmes.

Senator Ohuabunwa frowned at the federal government’s idea of sharing money to Nigerians instead of using such public funds to develop agriculture which would generate new jobs and meaningfully engage the youths.

Ohuabunwa who distributed a large quantity of empowermen items said the gesture was aimed at mitigating the sufferings of the people.

The senate who promised never to relent in efforts that would improve the living standard of the people told  them not to despair over the political quagmire in the zone.

He urged them to keep praying for divine intervention so that the peoples joy would be restored.

Senator Ohuabunwa expressed hope the the political stalemate in the district would be rectified by the relevant stakeholders in  2020.

Recall that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu whose election was upheld by the court after a legal battle with Ohuabunwa is currently serving a 12-year jail term following his conviction on N7.2 billion 39 -point fraud charge.
