100 days in office : Ruga, Kalu’s only achievement – Nkole
* Calls for speedy trial of EFCC suit

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. Isaac Nkole, has carpeted the senator representing Abia North district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for alleged non-performance.
Nkole who addressed newsmen in Umuahia, said “Kalu’s only achievement to mark his first 100 days in office is Ruga and advertisement of legislative ignorance”.
According to Nkole, the former Governor’s “advocacy for the controversial Ruga settlement for herdsmen is a ploy to stop his pending financial fraud suit by the EFCC ( Economic and Financial Crime Commission).
Nkole regretted that the former Governor instead of using his position to advance the cause of his constituents, suddenly became a promoter of Northern agenda.
He said Kalu’s short stay so far at the senate “has been a total disaster”, regretting that “Abia North has never had it so bad.”
Nkole who compaired Kalu’s achievements within his first 100 days in office, and that of his predecessors said Kalu had “turned Abia North into a laughing stock and comic relief at the senate.”
He said that while Kalu’s immediate past predecessor, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa posted some remarkable and incontrovertible achievents within his first 100 days in office, “Kalu’s score card is abysmal failure “.
Nkole challenged the former Governor to publish his achievements since he went to the senate “after circumventing the will of the people “.
His words : ” Kalu’s only achievement is Ruga. Unlike his predecessors who distinguished themselves at the red chamber, he has turned himself into a megaphone for Northern interest.
“It’s on record that within his first 100 days in office, Sen Ohuabunwa had moved a motion on landslides and erosion menace in Abia North Senatorial District and other parts of the country.
” Ohuabunwa also within his first 100 days in the senate sponsored a bill on the establishment of a Cancer Research and Treatment Centre for Nigeria. He moved a motion on the dilapidated roads in Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs.
“The motion required the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Ecological Funds Office to, as a matter of urgency take proper study of all gully erosion areas in the country with a view to finding a lasting solution to the erosion problem.
“Apart from Ohuabunwa, other previous senators like Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, and Uche Chukwumerije, also made us proud at the senate unlike the self -appointed Ruga exponent.”
” Work on the Arochukwu -Ohafia federal highway which was vigorously pursued while Ohuabunwa was at the senate has now slowed down , and Instead of pressurising the Federal Government to continue with the project, Kalu is busy shouting Ruga”.
Nkole who hailed the judgement of the election petitions tribunal that ordered for a supplementary poll between Ohuabunwa and Kalu said the “people’s stolen mandate will soon be recovered”.
He urged the Federal Government not to discontinue with the on-going trial of Kalu for alleged embezzlement of over N7 billion while in office as Abia Governor.
Nkole equally taunted Kalu to “honourably quit the senate for those who have the competence and experience”, contending that it is shameful for a “highly endowed” Abia North to be represented by “a mediocre” at the red chamber.
“Kalu should face his EFCC case and leave legislative matters for those who know the act of legislation and not to ask CJN to send Law or to legalise illegal bunkering as achievements. He is now the Presidential mouth piece instead of a legislative mouth piece”, he said.
Recall that the Justice Cornelius Akintayo -led panel had invalidated the election of Kalu on the grounds of non compliance with the electoral act, and margin of lead principle, but he has since appealed the judgement.
