Tribunal affirms Elweremadu’s election

The National assembly/State house of assembly elections tribunal sitting in Enugu on Monday, September 9, upheld that Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the candidate of PDP was validly elected as senator representing Enugu West senatorial district in the February 25 2019 National assembly election.
The three man tribunal led by Hon Justice H.H kerang in an unanimous judgement said that the former deputy senate president scored the highest valid votes scored in the election.
The tribunal dismissed the petition filed by Enugu state chapter of APC and it’s candidate in the election,Barr Mrs Juliet Ibekaku Nwagwu. It awarded a cost of N250,000 each in favour of the three respondents against the petitioners.
While delivering judgment the tribunal described the pleadings of the petitioner as deficit of facts stating,’ The petition deserves no other thing than dismissal. The first respondent was duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast. The petitioners failed to prove non compliance’.
Reacting to the judgement, the petitioner’s lawyer, Mr Patrick Luke said he already have instructions from his client,Barr Mrs Ibekaku Nwagwu to appeal the judgement.
