Ekweremadu : Kinsmen demand arrest,  prosecution of IPOB members

A socio-political pressure group from  Enugu West senatorial district which Senator Ike Ekweremadu, represents in the National Assembly known as ‘Enugu West Peoples’ Parliament has described the assault on Senator Ikeh Ekweremadu, at Nuremburg Germany by members of Indigenous People of Biafra[IPOB], as very unwarranted and called on the Federal ministry of Justice, the Nigerian embassy in Germany and the Nigerian Diaspora Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the ugly incident and ensure those behind it are prosecuted.

They equally condemned the threat by IPOB to launch similar attack on the South East governors and other Igbo leaders who came on a foreign mission.

The group made the demand Monday  at a press conference held in Enugu during which they also tasked the organizers of the ‘New yam festival’ at Nuremberg,Germany to explain why they   failed to provide security for Senator Ekweremadu,whom they officially invited to grace the occasion.

A press statement jointly signed by the National Secretary of the organisation,Hon Cletus Akalusi, National Publicity secretary Dr Godwin Udeuhele and National organising Secretary, Ozo Okey Ozoani stating their demands read,

“Thorough investigation, arrest and prosecution of all those who planned and carried out the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu on August 17, 2019.

“An explanation by the organizers of the ‘Iriji’ celebration at Nuremberg on why they failed to provide security for Ekweremadu,who in his usual act of patriotism honoured their invitation’

“We urge the federal ministry of Justice, the Nigerian embassy in Germany and the Nigerian Diaspora Commision to rise to the occasion to ensure that the culprits are brought to book”.

The group urged other Igbo disapora organizations to take note of the further threat by IPOB to visit other Igbo personalities on a similar mission abroad,so as to arrange for adequate security them.

“Enugu West Peoples’ Parliament advised all current Igbo leaders holding any political or cultural position for the Igbo nation not  to be distracted with the IPOB threats, but to continue serving diligently in their respective positions”.

They described Senator Ike Ekweremadu as a through son of Igbo land who have served Enugu West senatorial district,Enugu state,Nigeria and the West African region passionately in his position as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria and a former speaker of ECOWAS parliament.

“Let’s put on record that Senator Ike Ekweremadu has done so much for his constituents,the Igbo nation,Nigeria and the West African sub region.Within his constituency and the South East of Nigeria,Ekweremadu has demonstrated quality representation by attracting numerous infrasturcture including roads and bridges,water projects,dams, electricity projects,just to mention but a few.

“His Non Governmental organization the Ikeoha foundation, has provided scholarship and bursary awards to over 6,000 indigent students, assisted adult learners on how to read and write,provided assistance to women and youths in so many ways too many to mention”.

Enugu West Peoples’ Parliament maintained that Ekweremadu’s “contribution on the floor of the senate remains unparalleled and speaks volume of his love for Ndigbo.”
