Imo 2019: Orlu leaders endorse NPM candidate, Tony Obinna
By Steve Oko
Ahead of the 2019 governorship poll in Imo State, leaders and stakeholders in Orlu Zone have endorsed the candidate of New Progressive Movement, NPM, Ambassador Tony Kelvin Obinna as their consensus candidate.
This was the outcome of the meeting of Orlu Zonal leaders /stakeholders held on October 18, 2018.
Chairman of Orlu Zone Political Forum, Chief M. A. Ahaonu, who disclosed this in a release made available to Wawa News Global, said the zone would support power shift to another zone to give others a sense of belonging.

Recall that both the incumbent Rochas Okorocha who will be completing his second tenure by 2019; and former Governor Achife Udenwa who also held sway for eight years are all from Orlu zone.
The leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the crisis in the All Progressive Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
They also frowned at the exclusion of Owerri zone by the major political parties, saying it amounts to injustice.
The Orlu leaders noted that power had resided for 16 years in Orlu zone and should be allowed to move to other zones particularly Owerri zone in the spirit of equity and justice.
They commended Obinna for picking his running mate, Dr Crystal Jane Cosmas Osakwe from Orlu zone, describing the joint ticket as a perfect match.

The release read in part :”With this endorsement, it is obvious that the leaders of Orlu Zone are also taking steps to correct a major injustice that is about to be perpetrated by some political elements in the state who have been machinating to scheme the Owerri zone out of the political equation in Imo State by attemting to retain power in Orlu Zone where it has resided for 16 years.
“We are satisfied with the position of the Deputy Governor that was given to our daughter, Dr Crystal Jane Cosmas Osakwe and we have given her our blessings and support to achieve victory at the polls.
“With this endorsement, Orlu Zone leaders have affirmed in good conscience that it is high time an Owerri man is given the opportunity to govern Imo State”
Meanwhile political pundits have said that the 2019 polls in Imo “will not be about political parties but the individual and the urgent need to balance power equation of the state to carry every zone along “.
Findings by Wawa News Global revealed that the decision of the Orlu leaders enjoys the support of the masses who have since vowed to mobilise the people in support of Obinna.
“Ambassador Tony Kelvin Obinna is the only Owerri indigen in the race and he is the youngest candidate in the contest, with vast connection and in-depth knowledge of what Imo State needs to turn its fortunes around”, declared an enthusiastic indigene.
“Ambassador Tony Kelvin Obinna is considered the most suitable candidate by Orlu leaders. This is because of his peaceful disposition and ability to bring Imo indigens together in the face of rancorous political atmosphere occasioned by candidates of the three major political parties in the state, who are considered part of the problems befalling the state”, another added.
