. Again, debunks rumour of Ikpeazu ‘s alleged plot to defect to APC

As political activities hot up ahead of the 2019 polls the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has claimed that Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is under pressure by Abians to recontest for another term in office.

This is as the party has however, declared that there would be no automatic ticket for any lawmaker seeking re-election in 2019.
PDP has also, again, strongly debunked the rumour in some quarters that Gov. Ikpeazu was as at last week making desperate efforts to defect to the All Progressive Congress ( APC).

Briefing newsmen Monday in his office, PDP Chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo said the clamours for Ikpeazu’s second coming was based on his impressive performance so far in office.
Onuigbo said the Governor would at the proposed mega rally of the party slated for Wednesday at the Event Center Isigate Umuahia, publicity respond to the clamour, appeals and pressure on him by Abians to recontest in 2019.
He said Ikpeazu had so far distinguished himself that “it is now a consensus among Abians that he deserves a second tenure” to consolidate on the gains of his administration.

Onuigbo said the Governor had performed creditably in the five pillars of his administration particularly infrastructure, commerce and education where Abia had maintained the first position in “WAEC exams in the last three years “.
He said that Aba had now been placed on the global economic map due to the Governor’s passion for the promotion of made -in – Aba goods.
The PDP Chairman also noted that security had improved tremendously in the state, saying there are no politically induced killings in Abia.
He used the opportunity to refute the rumour making the rounds that the party is malling the option of automatic ticket for its lawmakers seeking re-election.
Onuigbo who said such speculation was unfounded insisted that there would be no automatic ticket for any aspirant of the party.
He said all aspirants in the party would be subjected to free and fair primaries so the best among them can emerge.
” Nothing like automatic ticket. Every position must be contested”, he insisted.
On the rumour that Gov. Ikpeazu made desperate attempt to defect to the APC up till last week before eventually submitting his nomination form to PDP, Onuigbo said that was no attraction in APC for the Governor to have made such consolation.
” What is in APC that will attract the Governor? What has the party achieved since three years it came to power if not mass killings of Nigerias ? Ikpeazu cannot dream of going to APC.
“When PDP was in power, we never heard of Meiti ‘Allah but now cows move into Aso Rock. Nigerias said they needed change and the change has brought a bag of rice from N8000 to N20000. But in 2019 we must change the bad change. “
Onuigbo warned of the dire consequences of any attempt by the APC-controlled government to manipulate the outcome of the 2019 polls in Abia in its favour.
” Abia is not Ekiti. We know their plans to rig the election as they did in Ekiti but we will resist them. It cannot work here “.

Adding his voice, Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kanu, said Ikpeazu was so far the only governorship aspirant of PDP for the 2019 poll.
He said APC was free to adopt him as its own consensus candidate if it has no viable candidate for the election ” provided they vote for him as PDP candidate.
Kanu said Ikpeazu would cost to victory in 2019, claiming that the the opposition in the state is non-existent.
